Flights on longest nonstop route commence today

Do you think the non-stop Doha-Auckland (17.40 h), Houston-Sydney (17.30 h), Los Angeles-Singapore and Perth-London (each 17.20 h) flights are not long enough? No problem: As of today (11 October 2018, Singapore Airlines is once again offering a stop-free connection from Singapore to New York.

The 18.45 hour flight will be operated by the new ultra-long version of the Airbus A350-900, which was delivered to the first customer a few weeks ago (see ITJ 41-42/2018, Air Special, page 18). Singapore Airlines has seven of the long-haul units on order.

The flight in the very generously sized cabin should be pleasant for passengers. However, in this case less luggage space does not mean more room for cargo. The ULR aircraft requires more fuel for the long flight and that reduces the space for cargo to 69 cbm, instead of the 155 cbm in a standard A350-900. (ah)
