Flourishing Central Asian air cargo plans

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the president of Turkmenistan, signed a resolution authorising the Türkmenhowaýollary Agency to conclude a contract with Aircraft Finance Germany for the purchase of B777-200F, the all-cargo version of the B777-200LR, of which Turkmenistan Airlines has three in its fleet.

The modernisation of infrastructure and the renewal of aircraft for civilian aviation forms an integral part of the country's ambitious plans for its transport networks, the head of state said in mid-June.

The plans include making the airport of Ashgabat, the country's capital, into an international hub for air freight. Currently, the Central Asian flag carrier's cargo fleet consists of three Il-76TD. (ah)
