Foldable containers win innovation award
Xerox and Holland Container Innovations (HCI) are the joint winners of the 2014 Promising Innovation in Transport Award. HCI receives the award for their 4FOLD ISO certified foldable container, which significantly reduces the economic and environmental cost of empty container shipments. The jury highlighted the significant potential offered by this innovation for "improving efficiency within the world's most prevalent freight movement mode", both for the transport and the storage of containers.
HCI was established early 2008 as a spinoff from the Delft University of Technology to successfully market the idea for a foldable container. Since then HCI has made a quick development that resulted in the first full-size prototype in March 2009. In June 2011 HCI has received CSC certification for the newest prototype, and as of March 2013 the container received full ISO certification. HCI has now started production in Asia for the first series of the foldable container.
