Freight railway expanding in Antwerp

DB Cargo is reinforcing its sales power in Belgium. The German railfreight service provider announced that its new production enterprise, DB Cargo Belgium, has commenced operations in Antwerp, Europe’s second largest seaport.

The new company, which is also active in Ghent and Zeebrugge (both Belgium), provides intermodal and transport services from Antwerp - mainly for the chemical industry, while Ghent and Zeebrugge are primarily used for car transport activities. The services mostly run to Germany (Aachen west) via the Belgium – Netherlands corridor.

Up until now, DB Cargo did business in Belgium through its Dutch subsidiary, and was able to operate trains there because it had its own licence. (ben)
