French shipping company launches train service

Contecon Manzanillo operates the Mexican Port of Manzanillo. It has now joined forces with its parent company International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), CMA CGM and Grupo da Mexico, a mining, transport and infrastructure company, to offer a new train service option in Mexico. The first train transported 216 containers, of which 202 were unloaded at Walmart’s terminal in Cuautitlan.

The service offers direct routes and takes 29 hours from point to point. The operation is part of CMA CGM’s third block train service in Mexico and serves the first certificated carbon-neutral port in the county. This new offer enabled Contecon Manzanillo to cut 88.5 t of carbon emissions compared to trucking the cargo. (ben)
