Further recovery in May
The Valencia Port Authority has released its results for May 2022. For the first time in recent months, there was a moderate rise in the number of full export containers (+0.55%) compared to May 2021, while import containers continued their upward trend and increased by 14.75%.
However, the number of full containers dedicated to transhipment fell by 7.4%, while empty containers (currently highly demanded, especially by Valencian export companies) grew by 6.87%. The total number of teu handled by Valenciaport stood at more than 477,000 units, which represents a sidewards move compared to May of the previous year (+0.22%).
Total cargo traffic in May 2022 amounted to above 7.7 million t, an increase of 7.8%, mainly due to solid and liquid bulk. Thus, almost 34.8 million t have been handled in the first five months of 2022, 1.34% less than the same period in 2021. (sh)
