German cabinet says “yes” to uniform road charges
The fifth German federal trunk road toll act (BFStrMG) has just been approved by the federal cabinet. Following the submission of a new 2018 – 2022 infrastructure cost report, the truck toll rates will be adjusted as of 1 January 2019.
The latest BFStrMG foresees standard road charges for motorways and federal roads, in line with transport industry demands.
In future, toll charges will depend on the permissible maximum weight - and the axle classes on over 18 t vehicles. The new law is intended to provide planning security for logistics enterprises, as well as for financing the infrastructure.
Germany expects to “harvest” an average of EUR 7.2 billion from its road charging scheme over the next few years. (ben)
