German maritime transport up in 2014
Destatis, Germany's statistics office, has reported that freight transhipment in maritime transport increased by 2.1% in 2014, compared with the previous year. The provisional data says German sea ports handled a total of 303.9 million t of goods in the twelve months under review.
In 2013 the volume of freight transhipment stood at 297.6 million t. In 2014 receipts from foreign countries recorded a slightly higher increase (+2.1%) than dispatches to foreign ports (+1.9%).
