Germany launches master plan for inland navigation

Andreas Scheuer, Germany’s minister for transport, presented the “master plan for inland shipping” in Berlin recently. The ministry’s aim is to support the modal shift and increase the amount of traffic on the inland waterways to 12% of the country’s total transport volume by 2030.

To this end, the master plan is divided into five fields of action which correspond to the various existing working groups: provision of infrastructures in accordance with the industry’s needs, measures for a more eco-friendly and competitive fleet, digital innovations, boosting of inland shipping within the multimodal transport chain and recruitment of a sufficient amount of skilled workers in the sector.
