Global leaders convene for maritime trade resilience
The International Chamber of Shipping, in collaboration with Hong Kong's Transport and Logistics Bureau and Shipowners Association, hosted the second Global Maritime Trade Summit in Hong Kong amid rising geopolitical tensions. The summit focused on building resilient supply chains, fostering innovation and promoting investment to sustain the maritime economy. A key closed-door ministerial dialogue, opened by Hong Kong's deputy financial secretary, discussed enhancing government-industry collaboration to address global trade realignment challenges.
Industry leaders, including ICS chairman Emanuele Grimaldi and Hong Kong Shipowners Association chair Angad Banga, emphasised the importance of partnership, agility and innovation in navigating geopolitical uncertainties. Hong Kong's secretary for transport and logistics, Mable Chan, reiterated that resilience comes from cooperation, not isolation. The summit underscored the industry's leadership role in shaping future trade, with high-level discussions focusing on sustainable growth, de-risking trade and strengthening global economic partnerships.
