Grant secures DR Congo road project
The African Development Bank's board has approved a grant of USD 82.7 million for the development of a 56 km stretch of carriageway between Lovua and Tshikapa on the Batshamba-Tshikapa NR1 highway in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The grant supplements earlier bank interventions on the same road.
The works include construction of a new bridge over the Kasaï River passing through Tshikapa town. The upgraded road also aims to improve the service level of the transport logistics chain on the Kinshasa-Tshikapa road and the living conditions of people in the area. The project is expected to help open up the Bandundu and West Kasaï provinces. Some of the targeted economic benefits encompass lower vehicle operating expenses and shorter travel time. (ben)
