Green light for the world's first all-electric airline

Magnix, an aviation engineering company based in Redmond (WA, USA), and Harbour Air, a seaplane airline that offers twelve scheduled destinations in the Pacific northwest of the USA and British Columbia, have formed a partnership to transform Harbour Air seaplanes into an all-electric commercial fleet powered by the “magni500”, a 750 horsepower all-electric motor.

In 2007, Harbour Air, which also accepts express shipments on board, has become the first fully carbon-neutral airline in North America, through the purchase of carbon offsets.

In late 2019, the partnership will begin to modify existing Harbour Air planes with innovative, all-electric Magnix propulsion systems, thus creating the world’s first completely electric commercial seaplane fleet. (ah)
