Hamburg Süd and CCNI ink sale/purchase pact
Germany-based Hamburg Südamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft (Hamburg Süd) has signed an agreement for the acquisition of the container liner activities of Compañía Chilena de Navegación Interoceánica SA (CCNI). The pact includes the related general agency functions of Agunsa Agencias Universales SA (Agunsa), with headquarters in Valparaiso and Santiago de Chile.
The takeover of the CCNI/Agunsa business is, subject to approval by the competent antitrust authorities, scheduled to take effect at the end of March 2015.
Hamburg Süd will operate the CCNI container liner business under its established brand name in the main trades between the west coast of South America, Asia, Europe and North America respectively.
The German carrier said that CCNI will discontinue its container liner services and will only use the CCNI name for the car carrier activities which it is retaining. Agunsa will continue representing other shipping lines as an agent, and will also further develop its port and logistics services business in South America.
