HHLA, MAN and VW test autonomous trucks
HHLA, operator of the port of Hamburg, is to test automated and autonomous trucks in the near future. A corresponding cooperation agreement has been signed by HHLA, the city of Hamburg and the German vehicle makers VW and MAN.
The project initially foresees two prototype trucks equipped with the requisite electronic automation systems. The fully automatic vehicles will enter the A7 motorway at the Soltau east junction and cover some 70 km to HHLA’s Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) where they will autonomously handle unloading/loading processes.
The field trial will last from January 2019 to June 2020. This will cover the technical development of the system on the MAN testing grounds in Munich. (kd)
