HHLA, Metrans and Lithuanian railways to cooperate
The port of Hamburg’s HHLA, its railway subsidiary Metrans and the Lithuanian railways are set to cooperate closely to fortify cross-border operations to from the northern German port. The move is particularly relevant in the context of the ‘Rail Baltica’ and ‘East–west transport corridor’ infrastructure projects.
In June HHLA already took over Transiidikeskuse, the largest Estonian container and multipurpose terminal, which is now set to be integrated more into Metrans and the Lithuanian railways’ networks. The Lithuanian railways handles traffic on both Western Europe’s 1,435 mm gauge and Russia’s 1,520 mm broad gauge systems. (ben)
