Hub solution augments intermodal capacity
The Swedish freight railway Green Cargo has opened a hub in Eskilstuna (Sweden) that enables shipping companies to convey all goods by rail to and from the port of Gothenburg, even when transport volumes rise.
When large numbers of containers arrive at the Swedish port, they are loaded onto Green Cargo trains and hauled to the Eskilstuna terminal, where they are put into intermediate storage or cross-loaded for further transport.
A shuttle train makes eight round trips per week between the port of Gothenburg and the terminal. Three to four trains per week link Eskilstuna to Gavle, Stockholm, Sodertalje and Norrkoping (all Sweden). (ben)
