Jan de Nul opts for Knud E. Hansen's design

The Belgian group Jan De Nul has recently placed an order for its third offshore jack up installation vessel with Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry in China. With a payload of approximately 14,000 t and a crane capacity of over 3,000 t, the vessel will be the largest of its kind.

The vessel was designed by Jan DeNul, while Knud E. Hansen provided the design review and contributed to the tender design package.

Based on experience from designing the wind turbine installation vessels Pacific Orca and Pacific Osprey for Swire Blue Ocean, the designer supplied the mid-ship section and design of the three‐chorded truss work legs, the jacking frames, the leg wells and the main crane pedestal as well as global and local FEM strength calculations of the hull, the legs and the jacking frames.
