Johannesburg airport aims to become logistics hub
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) estimates that the country's flagship airport O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where currently the Air Cargo Africa exposition and conference is taking place, is well positioned to be a logistics and distribution hub for air cargo.
"A combination of sufficient cargo capacity, strategic location, high levels of connectivity, accessibility to major routes and world-class infrastructure position makes O.R. Tambo international a super site for cargo and logistics," says the airport's general manager Bongiwe Pityi.
O.R. Tambo is Africa's busiest airport and a vital gateway for regional and international air cargo, handling approximately 390,000 t of airfreight last year.
