Kick-off for new CSX-served intermodal facility

After a groundbreaking ceremony, the construction work for the Carolina Connector (CCX) intermodal transportation facility in Edgecombe County (NC, USA) has started.

The site will allow trucks to bring cargo containers to a railyard where they will be transferred to trains for transport. The facility will be built on the CSX mainline and the US class I railroad will run it. The North Carolina department of transportation (NCDOT) is investing up to USD 118.1 million for site development and roadway construction.

The new intermodal facility will expand CSX’ network in Rocky Mount. Construction should take 18-20 months, with an estimated completion date in late 2020. (ben)
