KLM flies Koalas

Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen welcomed three koalas to their custom-built habitat called "Koalia", marking a special occasion because, apart from being the only koalas in the Netherlands, they are the first to set foot on Dutch soil - after having been travelling with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo.

On 4 April, an animal caretaker from the Dutch zoo flew to San Diego to pick up the koalas. After several days of training with caregivers, she returned last Friday, leaving Los Angeles with the three furry passengers.

Upon arrival, the animals were transported to the KLM Animal Hotel in Amsterdam, where they were cleared through customs and given a health check. They will inhabit their brand-new residence in Europe, which will open its doors for human visitors on 25 April. They can also meet giant pandas which KLM Cargo transported from China to the Netherlands in 2017. (ah)
