Latin America increases rail interoperability

The International Union of Railways (UIC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Latin American railway association Alaf. The document covers, inter alia, staff training and education, railway engineering, passenger and cargo transport, logistics and exchange of data.

UIC says: “Railways in Latin America should help develop sustainable transport on a continental scale. In this context, standardisation should be undertaken upstream to avoid that the numerous projects that are currently underway don not end up in non-interoperable track sections.”

“UIC will be committed to assist railways and stakeholders in providing a framework that will guarantee that interoperability from the level of inception.” (ben)
