Leimgruber adds intermodal option

The Swiss forwarder now also offers container transports by rail. The low emission train picks up the containers at the Swiss frontier in Basel and carries them to the regional terminal in Oensingen. From there, the cargo is delivered to customers within the region by truck.

This intermodal solution increases the productivity of the trucks deployed, as it reduces the number of empty container transports as well as CO2 emissions, Leimgruber said.

Basel is the container capital of Switzerland. Most containers shipped from the North Sea ports or ports in Italy generally arrive here and are then fed into the national transport network.

For Contargo, Leimgruber delivers these containers to recipients across Switzerland or collects export containers and brings them to Basel to be loaded onto the railways or inland barges on the Rhine. (ben)
