Less cargo theft in Mexico

Intelligence company Sensitech recently published its annual cargo theft report for Mexico in 2020. In total, cargo theft in 2020 decreased by 9% in comparison to 2019, but its risk level remains severe. On a regional basis, the state of Mexico accounted for 34% of cargo theft across the country. Hijackings in particular dominated the scene.

Unlike other world regions, most cargo thefts in Mexico occur while vehicles are in transit. Food & drinks, building & industrial and miscellaneous are at the top of the list of types of cargo.

In its annual cargo theft report for 2020, the TT Club pointed out that social unrest hit the logistics and transport industry in Mexico particularly strongly: "Significant disruption to the Mexican railfreight industry, with protesters setting up blockades on train tracks, created a backup of cargo across the country. This disruption led to estimated losses of close to USD 4.4 billion." (sh)
