Lights on military veterans' logistics skills

The port operator PD Ports wants to enhance former members of the armed forces' employability skills and help them to find local jobs when they leave the army. Around 8% of PD Ports's 1,200 workforce is made up of service veterans and reservists.

Russ McCallion, PD Ports’ director of human resources, said that “we aim to help provide stable employment opportunities for veterans as they build their new lives. Europe’s largest garrison is at Catterick, after all, which is only 30 miles from our main operations centre at Teesport."

The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge from businesses, local authorities and other sectors that aims to ensure that those who serve or have served in the armed forces and their families are treated fairly. (kd)
