LNG - testing testing in Bilbao
Itsas Gas, a company owned by the Basque Energy Agency, Ibaizabal Remolcadores and Naviera Murueta, has carried out its first test for transferring liquefied natural gas (LNG) from one boat to another in the port of Bilbao (Spain). This bunkering operation was among the first of its kind in the Atlantic Arc and the Mediterranean.
The seven month preparatory work for the test was carried out in the Murueta Shipyard, and included, inter alia, the installation of two tanks, each with a 300 cbm capacity, to house the gas with which to supply ships. Itsas Gas invested EUR 5.5 million in the project.
In addition, the pontoon for the Bay of Biscay gas plant was remodelled to enable small vessels to take on LNG. (kd)
