LNG train to be tested in Poland

The railfreight operator PKP Cargo and the oil and gas company PGNIG Obrót Detaliczny have decided to cooperate in order to shift the transport of liquid natural gas (LNG) in Poland on to the railways. Currently, mainly cryo-tank trucks are used to distribute liquid gas from the LNG terminal in Świnoujście in the northwest of Poland to destinations throughout the country.

By moving the shipment of LNG to the railways, much larger quantities of gas could be transported in future, says PKP Cargo. Therefore, PKP Cargo and PGNIG intend to conduct trial with a first LNG train from the terminal in Świnoujście as from the beginning of 2020. As the Polish railfreight company explains, this will be Poland’s first LNG transport by rail. (ben)
