Louisiana rail company changes ownership

US transport company Watco has acquired the Geaux Geaux Railroad. The 42 km US class III railroad runs from Slaughter to Zee in Louisiana.

It currently serves Hood Container, a paper and packaging corporation. Acquiring the line opens opportunities for exploration in providing rail car storage for current and future customers in the Louisiana industrial hubs including Geismar, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.

Furthermore, the Geaux Geaux’s access to large tracts of land adjacent to the rail line offers an excellent opportunity for the development of manufacturing or distribution facilities, Watco said. The railroad interchanges with the Canadian National Railway in Baton Rouge.
