Meet and greet: new experience for new drivers

P&O Ferrymasters has introduced a "meet & greet" reception facility that provides a more efficient service for new lorry drivers arriving at British Steel’s site in Scunthorpe (UK).

Since its launch in November 2107, more than 900 drivers have been inducted and over 1,300 trailers checked, greatly improving the flow of drivers onto the site and reducing the number of rejected trailers.

Claire Reynolds, P&O Ferrymasters’ H&S manager for contract logistics in Britain, said: “A first-time driver undergoes a pictorial induction and then completes a competence test before receiving an induction card. The driver’s trailer is also checked to ensure it is in order and ready for loading before proceeding to the loading area at their allocated time slot. The next step will be to extend the initiative to other flows in Scunthorpe, including domestic, container and tipper traffic.” (mw)
