Modal shift reduces CO2 emissions by 99%

The Swedish state-owned railfreight company Green Cargo has recently started to carry building components for Expandia Moduler by rail. The finished modules are brought from Expandia’s plant in Värmlandsbro to Luela, some 50 km away.

Green Cargo has decided to use primarily electric traction units for this project. Eight freight wagons were renovated and refurbished so that each wagon can carry two modules at the same time. In a first phase, Green Cargo will transport 400 to 500 modules for Expandia.

The railfreight company says that shifting the cargo from trucks to the railways reduces CO2 emissions by 99%. (ben)
