Moderate surge for DP World in 2018

Growth continued for DP World in 2018, albeit at a slower pace. The group handled 71.4 million teu last year, with gross container volumes rising by 1.9% year-on-year on a reported basis and 2.9% on a like-for-like basis.

Gross volumes remained stable in Q4/2018, despite softer volumes in the UAE. The UAE handled 15 million teu in 2018, a 2.7% decrease year-on-year.

At a consolidated level, DP World’s terminals lifted 36.8 million teu in 2018, a 0.8% improvement in performance on a reported basis and a 1.4% increase on a like-for-like basis.

Group chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, commented: “Our Europe and Americas portfolio saw strong growth with continued ramp-up in London Gateway (UK), Yarimca (Turkey) and Prince Rupert (Canada). Performance in Africa remained robust - driven by Dakar (Senegal) and Sokhna (Egypt).” (kd)
