Modernisation raises rail operation safety

Brookfield Rail has completed an AUD 20 million (EUR 14.3 million) re-rail and track renewal programme in the Avon Valley, east of Perth in Western Australia.

The overhaul involved replacing 35 km of rail between Kwinana and Avon, and realigning 18 km of dual gauge track between Jumperkine and Moondyne to ensure safe operations on one of the busiest sections of company’s network.

The section currently transports in excess of 19 million t each year, and provides a vital link to the eastern states for both passengers, bulk commodities and containerised freight. Brookfield Rail manages over 5,100 km of rail infrastructure. (ben)
