More trucks from UK to mainland Europe

Some 2.53 million goods vehicles travelled from Great Britain to mainland Europe in the four quarters ending Q2/2013, according to the latest statistics published by the UK’s Departement of Transport. This was 5% higher than in the four quarters ending Q2/2012, but still 13% lower than the peak in 2007. Of these goods vehicles, 1.9 million were powered vehicles and 0.6 million were unaccompanied trailers. The number of powered vehicles increased by 6%, but no change was seen in the volume of unaccompanied trailers, compared to the four quarters ending Q2/2012. In Q2/2013, 676,000 goods vehicles travelled from Great Britain to mainland Europe, 11% more than in Q2/2012 and the highest total since Q3/2008. (ben)
