MSC gets firmer grip on logistics

MSC, the world's second largest liner shipping company, is turning its eyes towards freight forwarding and logistics.

The Geneva (Switzerland)-based carrier is acquiring a stake in the enterprise Atlantic Forwarding. Switzerland’s cartel authority registered MSC’s purchase of a controlling stake in Atlantic Speditions, a forwarder domiciled in Schlieren (Switzerland) in November 2018.

On top of that, MSC is acquiring shares in Searunner Shipping, located in Hong Kong. The Atlantic Forwarding Group promotes its business with the slogan “key to the Far East”.

The company, founded in 1979 by Theo Ernst and until recently managed by his son Oliver Ernst, provides sea and air freight, multimodal transport and project logistic. The Atlantic Forwarding Group employs 400 people in 28 offices in India and other parts of Asia, as well as operating 15 offices in Europe. (kd)
