NEE sees membership grow

The German regional railway, Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-AG (SWEG), has become the 50th member of the Netzwerk Europäischer Eisenbahnen (NEE) association.

SWEG, which is on the brink of merging with another German rail transport provider - namely Hohenzollerischen Landesbahn - mainly handles single wagon traffic in the railfreight sector. SWEG also operates its own blocktrain service and generates an annual turnover of around EUR 6 million with its fleet of 10 freight locomotives.

The NEE said it is registering a continuous increase in the number of its members that are not part of the DB corporation. Non-DB enterprises, i.e. DB’s competitors, already haul almost half of the railfreight traffic in Germany (ben)
