New chairman at the North Sea

Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony’s minister of economic affairs, transport, building work and digitalisation, has been elected as the new chairman of the supervisory board of Niedersachsen Ports (Germany). Lies said that “our ports play a decisive role in facing the current crises. They’re our gateways to the world and key hubs for Germany’s energy supplies.”

With 15 port locations, Niedersachsen Ports is the largest operator of public seaports in Germany and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the federal state of Lower Saxony. Lies succeeded former minister Bernd Althusmann.

Other members of the supervisory board are Anka Dobslaw, from the Lower Saxon ministry for the environment, energy and climate protection (deputy chair), Birgit Diers from the Lower Saxon ministry of finance, Sascha Gatena from Niedersachsen Ports, Uwe Jacob from the Lower Saxon ministry for economic affairs, and Professor Kerstin Lange from the Jade University of Applied Sciences Elsfleth.
