New five-times-per-week Travemünde to Cologne rail service

The rail terminal at the Baltic Rail Gate on the Skandinavienkai in Travemünde has started to offer a direct train service that runs five times per week to and from Cologne (Germany). At the same time, the frequency on the Lübeck-Travemünde/Hamburg-Billwerder route is being raised to five departures per week. Baltic Rail Gate, an intermodal terminal that was inaugurated in 2003, is a subsidiary of the German port operator Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft and the Frankfurt-based intermodal service provider Kombiverkehr KG. The facility on the Travemünde quayside handled around 62,000 trucks, trailers and containers in 2012. The terminal’s two gantries serve five train-long sidings; the construction of a sixth siding is almost completed. (ben)
