New normal in the Port of Montreal

Two weeks after the announcement of the truce agreement reached on 20 August between the Longshoremen's Union and the Maritime Employers Association (AEM), the work in the port is back to normal.

The delay accumulated by the work stoppage should be absorbed in about two weeks, according to the port's forecasts.

While the AEM and the union of longshoremen will take advantage of this truce to come to an agreement, the AEM and the union of auditors of the Port of Montreal also succeeded, for their part, in reaching an agreement in principle which was approved by the members on 24 August.

The number of container ships calling at the terminals is back to normal. Thousands of trucks and a dozen trains took over delivering goods to importers in Quebec, Ontario and the American Midwest. (mw)
