Optimism in the air for railway industry
A survey of 100 railway companies by SCI Verkehr, an independent consultancy company for the transport sector, revealed that most of the service providers are registering increased demand for their products and services for the first time since mid-2012.
In Europe, the huge investments over past decades are now leading to a rising need for maintenance and modernisation. Companies have said that the outlook for the coming six months has significantly improved compared to previous quarters. A third of the surveyed firms expect to see a more favourable development in H1/2014. In Germany calls to tender are being issued for numerous networks. These go hand in hand with the procurement of new rolling stock.
In addition, SCI Verkehr expects strong impulses from new markets like Southeast Asia and South Africa. (ben)
