Pallet repair centre now fully automated
Fully automated operations have now started at Chep Germany’s Neu Wulmstorf service centre. The pallet pooling specialist invested over EUR 1.1 million in automating its pallet inspection and repair centre in order to step up efficiency.
The Neu Wulmstorf facility, which handles around 30,000 Chep euro, half and quarter pallets per day, is the hub for the Hamburg metropolitan region. Every year more than 2 million pallets are inspected, repaired if needed, and prepared for the next delivery cycle according to the “share and reuse” concept.
The different pallet types are destined for retailers and manufacturers of consumer goods and fresh produce. Chep expects its current handling rate of 30,000 pallets per day to almost double by mid 2019. (mw)
