Panalpina doubles cold storage space at Nairobi airport
Panalpina is continuing to invest in Kenya. The service provider has just added 1,500 sqm of cold storage space at Nairobi airport to enable more and improved services for its perishables customers in and out of the country.
According to the Basel (Switzerland)-based company, the set-up is unique within the airport, as it is the only one with dedicated loading bays for skidded and/or palletised cargo and separate cold rooms to manage specific temperature requirements.
Panalpina first started operations in Nairobi with a team of five people in 2015. The headcount grew to 350 with the acquisitions of Airflo and Air Connection.
Today, flying most of Kenya’s premium perishables out of the country, Panalpina aims to grow its local business from the current 65,000 t of flowers, fruit, and vegetables that it moves to more than 80,000 t by 2020. (ah)
