Planning basis for CST confirmed
On 25 June 2025 the Swiss government approved the inclusion of underground freight transport in its national transport plan, clearing a key hurdle for the planned Cargo sous terrain system (CST).
This planning instrument defines the corridor for the first section between Härkingen and Zurich, along with future hub locations.
The new section of the plan aligns federal, cantonal and CST interests and assesses impacts on groundwater and local traffic. Following a consultation with affected municipalities and cantons in 2024, feedback was integrated into the plan's development. The entry in the federal transport plan is one of several prerequisites for CST to apply for a construction permit. (js)
