Preparations at old and new Sydney airport
Preparations for the game-changing Western Sydney airport (WSA) are well underway with the release of a tender for land surveys of the airport site. The tender request was released by WSA Co, the company established to build and operate the AUD 5.3 billion (EUR 3.5 billion) airport.
At almost double the size of Sydney (Kingsford Smith) airport, considerable work is required to transform the 1,780 ha site at Badgerys Creek into an operational airport, starting service in 2026 (with cargo zones marked in purple colour).
Meanwhile, don't forget to register asap for the third annual Runway Run which will take on Sunday, 12 November on the airfield at Sydney airport. The organizers, Cure Cancer Australia and Sydney Airport, advise "that this one-of-a-kind event provides a rare opportunity to sprint 500 m down one of Sydney airport’s runways, normally reserved for aeroplanes!
The event is open to runners of all abilities… but be quick - only 100 tickets are available!" (ah)
