President elect names USTR nominee
Robert Lighthizer has been nominated as the new US trade representative by president-elect Donald Trump. Lighthizer served as deputy US trade representative under Ronald Reagan, and before that, he was chief of staff on the senate finance committee.
A partner at the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, Lighthizer specializes in international trade. He will work closely with secretary of commerce-designate Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, head of the newly created national trade council, to develop and implement pro-growth policies that expand the manufacturing base and stop outsourcing.
Lighthizer's nomination is subject to senate confirmation. (ah)
