Progress for Rovaniemi - Arctic Ocean railway line
The Finnish ministry of transport and communications has decided that a railway routing to the Arctic Ocean via Oulu, Rovaniemi and Kirkenes is the one that will be examined further.
The Arctic railway would improve Finland's logistical position and accessibility, as well as promote connections with the whole of Europe, the ministry declared. Such a link would be an alternative transport route to be exploited for Finland's imports and export activities.
So what will happen next? Research work on the EUR 2 billion Arctic rail line project will continue together with Norway, and a joint working group will be appointed to determine the project's further stages and work schedule before the end of 2018. (ben)
