Prolonging life of locomotives
Alstom has delivered the first overhauled BB36000 locomotive to the French locomotive rental company Akiem. Alstom originally won a contract in April 2016 to conduct a mid-life overhaul of seven locomotives. This was supplemented in June by a contract to overhaul 23 more units of the same type.
The BB36000 locomotives were manufactured at Alstom’s Belfort plant (France). They went into service from 1996 onwards and have covered nearly 2 million km to date. With this new contract, Alstom is helping Akiem to optimise its locomotives' service lifespan by extending it by 15 years.
The work covers the bogies, obsolescence monitoring, repair of parts, and modernisation of the drivers’ cabs. (ben)
