Pulling pipes across Anatolia

The trans-Anatolian natural gas project (Tanap) aims to transport 16 billion cbm of natural gas from the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan to Turkey, and to Europe via Turkey, at an estimated cost of USD 10 billion. Tanap has now signed a subcontract with Ceva Logistics for the latter to manage certain operations - including ground transportation and contract logistics services - for the movement of giant pipes for the Ardahan to Edirne (both Turkey) route.

The project will have three distinct phases and is to be completed in 2018. Under the terms of the deal, Ceva will transport 135,884 units of 56 inch (1,422 mm) and 48 inch (1,219 mm) steel pipes to key locations along the pipeline. The 56" pipes will be shipped between May 2015 and October 2016 and the 48" pipes between October 2015 and April 2017.
