Railways demand fair sharing of costs

The German Railway Industry Association (VDB) has posted mixed results for H1/2022: at EUR 6.8 billion, sales are around 1.5% above the figure for H1/2021. Domestic business is up by 24%. Foreign sales, on the other hand, show a decrease of 35% to EUR 1.7 billion.

According to VDB, the slowdown in exports is due to the ongoing supply chain crisis and postponed or prolonged public contracts. In addition, the railway industry mainly works with long-term supply and framework contracts at fixed prices, which puts another strain on business.

To ease the burden on the industry, VDB is therefore now calling for a fair sharing of additional costs between manufacturers and operators as well as an energy price brake for the rail sector. (ben)
