RCG with own traction on Greek railfreight services
The Austrian railway enterprise Rail Cargo Group (RCG) now handles operations of its own trains in Greece itself. Its subsidiary Rail Cargo Logistics – Goldair has assumed the role of a railfreight operator in Greece since July and is the first private railfreight company to offer traction services of its own in Greece.
The trains will run between Gevgelija/Idomeni, on the border between the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece, and the region around Thessaloniki. There is also the potential to run blocktrains on the stretch between Central Europe and the Greek ports of Thessaloniki and Piraeus, which would enable RCG to run seamless services with its own traction between Germany and Greece via Bulgaria (Kulata border crossing).
