Requirements for railfreight corridors in Europe

The International Union of Railways (UIC) has presented the “Requirements of railway undertakings for the implementation of European railfreight corridors” (RFCs). The document has a list of priority topics. They can be subdivided into three categories: the need for better cooperation between infrastructure managers (IM) and railway undertakings (RU); better cooperation between IMs along and across all RFCs, and cross border harmonisation of technical, operational and administrative processes.

The overall objective of the RFCs is to increase railfreight’s share in the European freight market by providing a network with conditions of use to allow RUs’ freight trains to run reliably and seamlessly across borders, according to the UIC. (ben)
