Road haulage and railfreight continue to grow

All Germany’s overland modes of transport improved their performance in the first half of 2018, compared to the same period of the previous year. Road haulage throughput grew by 1.1% to about 156.9 billion tkm, railfreight increased by 1.0% to around 60.6 billion tkm and inland shipping by 3.1% to about 28.0 billion tkm.

Unlike transport volumes, revenues differed from one sector to another. In road haulage and railfreight sales figures continued the upward trend of the previous years, while the country’s inland shipping industry reported a decline in sales due to the long drought and protracted periods of low water levels.
